We have put in the garden and Izzy is already an expert waterer. We have put in tomatoes (5), zucchini (1), strawberries (3), and carrots and pumpkin seeds. I am shocked by how fast the pumpkin is growing. Within one week, I have 6 sprouts about 2-3 in tall.
This blog is a story of two parents, both special educaton teachers, trying to raise a first grader and a precocious preschooler. We love to travel, cook, tend to our "backyard farm", and spend time with each other.

Getting ready for summer
We have put in the garden and Izzy is already an expert waterer. We have put in tomatoes (5), zucchini (1), strawberries (3), and carrots and pumpkin seeds. I am shocked by how fast the pumpkin is growing. Within one week, I have 6 sprouts about 2-3 in tall.
The Sandbox is Finished
My husband is so good. He built Izzy her sandbox complete with two seats one on each corner and a top. It is so great. We are going to have so much fun using it. Izzy already asks, "Lay down". She loves to lay in the sand.
We love Humboldt
If we were guaranteed our house to sell for what we paid and had two jobs secured for us, I think we would already be in the car. We love Arcata. We miss the life up there. Who wouldn't want their kid to spend their Saturday holding wild flowers, sucking on local honey sticks, listening to a live band, and watching jugglers and hula-hoopers while surrounded by locally grown or made products.
We had a great 24 hours in Humboldt this last weekend to celebrate Auntie Kari's graduation from HSU. It was so nice to be surrounded by family, see Kari's house, be treated to a wonderful meal and dessert, see Izzy holding chickens, play some frisbee golf on the absolutely, most gorgeous course (we will be back to do that again), walking around the campus and walk through the new PE and BSS building (stunning feats of environmental conscious architecture and building), see Kari graduate, and be in great weather (yes, it was 65 degrees which is incredibly warm there). We hope to be back soon.
Day at the Museum
We love to go to museums. One of our favorites is the California Museum downtown. They were having a special day with animals. We saw bats, tortoises, and lots of skins. When we were done looking around inside, we took to running around and staring up at the amazing wall in the courtyard outside. As I have said before this is a true treasure here in Sacramento. We are looking forward to June when the museum will host a traveling Smithsonian exhibition on Abraham Lincoln (one of only five cities in the US).
A toy that keeps on growing with her

Paul and I bought Izzy this toy when she was about 5 months old and boy is it still cruising with her. She is finding things and trying to figure out other things. The part that she walks around in we took off, so now she brings up a stool. We have definitely got our monies worth.
