Yosemite

(Okay so my pictures are backwards so I will tell you about our trip backwards). Here is the car as we were leaving. We were having some meat and cheese before we were going back up to Ahwanee Hotel. Paul and I have this thing that we try to find one thing that really means something to us both when we go on a trip. Sometimes we don't find anything so after looking at all the gift shops including the Ansel Adams, we went back up to Ahwanee and found a beautiful tree leaf (just like my Humboldt leaf for our Christmas tree) and a set of coasters that were made from the roof of the Ahwanee. Paul and I made a deal that we would like to come back to the Ahwanee for our 10 year anniversary, no kids and we will hike to the Vernal Falls and to the top of Yosemite Falls. Just cannot wait. Any takers to watch the kids???

This baby, she was the BEST!!!! There is nothing like getting so tuckered out that sleeping in your pack is the best place. We spent a lot of time on the tram and I only yelled once. Some people are just so stinking rude like pushing the woman and kid off and so that people can get off and then don't give us the free seat but rather have us stand and get smooshed. If this is what riding a subway is like, no thank you!

We found a really cool rock garden, which if anyone knows we have started to collect rocks and write where we got them and date them, then throw them out in our rock garden. If we ever move, I told Paul he will be packing up the rock garden too. So Izzy and I built our own rock sculptures.

What can I say but "WOW!" A short, wonderful walk up to the base of Yosemite Falls and we were awestruck.

Look what you walk up looking at. I mean, this looks like a postcard or a hollywood movie set.

A goodbye to the Curry Village. We will never see you again. Been there, done that and frankly the accommodations are not enough for what we paid.

Our accommodations. Thankfully my wonderful daughters slept through our French neighbors who did not stop talking and closing their bear box till 1230am. Ahh! Drove me bananas, but we did pay them back when Rees woke up bright and shiny at 545am. Should have gone to sleep earlier, because ultimately the baby always wins :) So at Curry Village you get this cabin, some blankets, pillows, and towels. It is centrally located to food, showers, pool, bathroom, grocery store, and a bar. Those are the good parts, the bad part is cabins are SO CLOSE to the other cabin, you might as well be in the same room. I cannot handle that especially when I have a one and four year old, who need some type of quiet to fall and remain asleep. I am not asking for much, just don't smoke and be quiet after 10pm like the rules say.

We had an absolutely great time at Happy Isle. A wonderful visitor center and place to put your feet in the water. I had to constantly tell Izzy that we were not going swimming in the water: a.) the water was freezing cold and b.) it was roaring!

Putting her feet in the oh, so cold water.

Our newest deer. We have to constantly tell her that deer are not reindeer or elk. We are so confused. Deer are in Yosemite (yes, I know they can be found elsewhere but for this case just here), elk by Auntie Kari, and reindeer are with Santa.

This looks like a fake picture, but it is not. Yosemite was a wonderful 33 hour adventure that we packed so much into. I love Yosemite, but will definitely be a few years before we go back. The crowds which I dubbed the Disneyland of National Parks and taking care of young children when you really just want to hike up to the Vernal Falls is hard. You forget that Izzy is only four and has cute little legs that have not yet mastered HIKING, but I can assure you we will train her and Rees. We love to be out and about and this is just the beginning. We even bought them their own National Parks cancellation stamp book. Paul and I started our's on our honeymoon and the girls will now have their own to start. Such a good memory.

There is nothing like spending two days in the coolest, literally, place. It is a great chance for us to beat the heat and hang out with Auntie Kari at the same time. We had a very eventful trip up with a throw up by Izzy and a picnic lunch. Okay, I know those shouldn't be compared or be a highlight but they were. It has been a very long time since we have had car sickness and believe me, we have jumped that hoop with her throwing up almost daily to school. Fun, fun! Our picnic lunch is always great at our favorite rest stop on highway 101. Nothing like redwoods and blue birds. So peaceful.
We saw Kari's apartment which was very cute. We also met her loud, smoking neighbors. Soon, soon she will be moving and hopefully getting some more sleep. But, otherwise it was in a great location looking out on a field that she "claims" has deer, but we didn't see any. Auntie Kari even made Izzy a tent in the corner of the living room which totally makes Izzy's World.
We also went to our favorite spots: the university to pick up some new "gear" and have the girls walk up the steps to Founder's Hall, Farmer's Market in the Plaza, Los Bagel's for an onion bagel with cream cheese and larrapin's, a walk through Fern Canyon which is always a spectacular event, and put our feet in the ocean at Trinidad Beach. Oh, a many days I spent there. Just love the coast.
The girls did a GREAT job and are awesome travelers. So proud of them.
