This blog is a story of two parents, both special educaton teachers, trying to raise a first grader and a precocious preschooler. We love to travel, cook, tend to our "backyard farm", and spend time with each other.

Public Restrooms
I knew that public restrooms were gross, but going in there with a young child is the most disgustingest thing ever. We took her to Costco in panties and she said she had to go. Brought her in and what does she want to do, but touch everything. So I am vomiting in my mouth and telling her, "NO!" Which causes her not to have to go. So we leave the restroom. After the third trip and I am completely frustrated (I told Paul I would rather sit in the car next time then go in to Costco and track down the restroom). He takes her because she asks to go a 4th time and I am "DONE". He takes her, tells her "No!" and she goes potty. Yes, in public and in the icky restrooms. What a good girl. But next time, I would like to sit in the car.
Scottie Dogs
I am not sure if it is the encouragement of having her new Scottie Dog pants on, but "No accidents today". Woo-hoo. Did all her business with no problems.

Gears
Great Montessori toy. I had a gift card and this was one of the things I picked up. It is not only fun for Izzy, but for us adults too. We can talk about colors and the way things move. It is also a good fine motor activity because the gears fit on a small rod that has to be perfectly positioned.
The Fun of Pink Eye
I think that everyone has gotten pink eye once in their life, but were you 22 months? Try telling her, at her level of comprehension that it is crucial that you "do not rub your eye!" Fat chance. We woke up Saturday, after her school had sent home 4 kids with pink eye this last week, that she may get pink eye. Lucky us she got pink eye. So we called the doctor (on top of me waking up with a bladder infection [consequence of teaching. When do we have time to go to the bathroom]. Paul did the morning shopping and then came back for us and we trekked to the pharmacy in Roseville. We are both doing much better and ready to start a new week.
