This blog is a story of two parents, both special educaton teachers, trying to raise a first grader and a precocious preschooler. We love to travel, cook, tend to our "backyard farm", and spend time with each other.

We have left the baby aisle
Yes, I officially shopped in the big girl section for Izzy. It was a little sad because she is still such a baby and I am trying to figure out how to pick cute, young girl clothes. No Hannah Montana, teenage clothes. Yuck! So our adventure begins in a new department.
We've Got a Scooter
Reesie will be 10 months old next week and has no desire to get on those knees and crawl. She has figured out to "bootie scoot" to anywhere she wants to go. It now sounds like this in our house, Paul to me, "Where's Rees?" Me to Paul, "In our room." Yes, she can scoot from the living room to our bedroom. The living room to the kitchen. You name it, she's gone, all on her bootie. Oh, and the pulling up. She can get onto her knees when she pulls herself up, but the gets stuck. So it is a constant time of exercise for her. Only a matter of time before she is running.
Bird Sighting
Minus, that we have had a long winter, we have been watching the birds. We love to see birds on bird feeders and we have been waiting to buy Izzy a bird feeder and we did so last weekend. She helped Daddy hang and fill them. It only took 24 hours to catch a bird eating on the feeder. We look forward to more warm days so that we can enjoy all the beautiful birds on the feeders.
Ballet Class
Well, we tried dance class, again. Yes, I want to like taking my kid to lots of events, but I find it difficult. I was a very active kid and I am struggling with not the fact that my kid enjoys what she is doing, but the other parents are INSANE! I mean, my kid is 4 shouldn't they be enjoying everything they are doing? No, I take my kid to the uppidy, nice Mid-Town Sacramento's Art Beast. An awesome place for kids, but I HATE some of the scenes I have witnessed. Now, it may just be that I am a teacher, or maybe I understand child psychology, but yelling at your grandchild, mind you (side note this is another grandma NOT ours yelling at her own granddaughter who is not too much older than Izzy), "You idiot! Either dance or get off the mirror". Okay, I know care-takers have their moments, but in public, to me she might as well have spanked her. I was shocked! Do not come into class, with my kid around, and say something like that and at ballet class mind you.
So back to dance class. We loved it. It is not very structured, but the teacher is young and learning, but very talented. It was a great time for Izzy to be with other kids her age and I like that she is moving. Not sure if we will extend out membership because it if we are not in town, then it would be a 90 mile trip for us and is that really worth it. She has reinforced her ballet positions and gotten practice in following directions. We also love the added benefit of art time and dramatic play time that we have a sang for "Play, ballet, go home". So for now, we wait till our next activity. I am eyeing swim lessons for July.
