This blog is a story of two parents, both special educaton teachers, trying to raise a first grader and a precocious preschooler. We love to travel, cook, tend to our "backyard farm", and spend time with each other.

Potty Trained?
We are so close. We haven't had an accident in weeks during the day and over a week at night. She even asked to go potty when we were in the pool last weekend. I am just so proud of her. She has really taken control and identifying when she needs to do this. At nights she is waking up around 330-430am and coming in, we take her potty, and then send her back to bed. She does this with no problems. Who would have though at 27 months old she would be completely potty trained. I am glad to not have to deal with diapers. They are a pain and only a convenience for us, not them. Who wants to sit in it? Yuck! And the price of diapers and the impact they make on the environment. Too bad we live in a society where parents allow their children to do their business on themselves and shrug it off as, "My child is not ready". Personally, I think they are not ready. Well, that is my theory with everything: bottles, pacifiers, toilet training, blankets, stuffed animals, cribs, big kid beds, eat with spoons and forks, no sippy cups, etc.

Mary Poppins
My kid loves Mary Poppins. I don't know too many two year olds who can sit and watch all 2 hour and 15 minutes of this. Then to top this all off, she bursts out in tears every single time the movie is over (you should see it, crocodile tears) because she really thinks that Mary Poppins is going away and she will never see her again (Mary leaves the family at the end of the movie by flying away by her umbrella over the city). It is heart breaking and so difficult to explain. We quickly turn it to the menu where she pops up again and Izzy gets happy again.

Smile
"Hey, Izzy will you smile for me?"
Just imagine, beautiful smile, teeth showing.... eyes closed. Yes, that is what she does when we say "Smile". I can only imagine what her school pictures, that they took on Tuesday, look like.
