This blog is a story of two parents, both special educaton teachers, trying to raise a first grader and a precocious preschooler. We love to travel, cook, tend to our "backyard farm", and spend time with each other.

The Strawberry Snatcher is at it again
Izzy is continuing to perfect her skills of eating the strawberries off the plant. Everytime I open the back door she beelines for the bush, bends down, and picks through the leaves to find the strawberries. So after watching her eat enough green strawberries I put the plant up. To my dismay this brought on a HUGE tantrum. She was so upset, like she had broke a bone. Screaming so loud. Paul and I then decided that we would just go buy strawberries and put them on the plant for her to "find", the next day. So if she is not in the strawberries she is now moving on to other vegetables. Her new favorite is the tomatoes. She grabs at them and when she is lucky she snatches one and likes to throw it on the ground and see it bounce on the concrete. Oh, I love my toddler.
Izzy at School
- We just love going to "school-school" everyday. Her teacher told us the other day that she hasn't been eating lunch with Izzy much since the new teacher arrived, but she was eating with the "big kids" that day (16 mo. olds + Izzy) and Izzy sat down at her chair, ate her food with a spoon, drank from an open cup, and when she was finished she put all of her stuff on her plate and then got up and put it in the basket. What?? At 14 months. I had to ask, is that normal? She said yes on the Montessori developmental continuum it is. So impressed!
- Paul and I arrived at school today and the way her class is I walk in one door where Izzy is and Paul walks through the other to punch in her code and then comes over. When I swing the door open and look up, I see a child standing on top of the table, and when I look a little closer it is my monkey standing on the table. So I call Paul over and we just gasp! She was so happy with herself. Her teacher shared that she is practicing with Izzy the two words, "Get down!"

Izzy loves fish Part II
So when you are on a trip you eat, eat, eat. We had a great breakfast, lunch at an Italian restaurant, and dinner at Isabella's at Fisherman's Wharf. So anyways, back to the food and Izzy. Izzy practiced eating seafood. The pictures speak a million words. Yummy, squid and calamari.
Izzy loves fish Part I
We took a day trip to Monterey to see Great-Grandma Pat and Great-Grandpa John. We had a great time! We went to the Aquarium and Izzy loved it. She was mesmerized by the schools of fish and has perfected the "Ooh" sound. They also opened a new exhibit called Splash Zone that caters towards infants and toddlers which couldn't have been better for us. It put a whole different perspective on the Aquarium when you are with a child. She was able to see exhibits at her level, interact with sea life, play in water, walk on a wave bed, and slide down a slide. We also had plenty of time to learn the fish, water, and bird sign.
