I have been watching Izzy's ears for awhile (about a week) thinking that the one looked exceptionally waxy. So I would use a Q-tip and get some gunk out but not check. Little did I know. While at the zoo the other day, we were at the lion exhibit and I glanced at her ear, and I saw the ear again. It looked like the whole ear was completely covered in wax. So I had Paul check. Guess what we found? A bead. We were able to get it out by breaking a ballpoint pen and using the inside to loosen it out (as we were at the zoo). I do not know how long she has had that it in there, but thankfully we were able to get it out. Some mothers collect their child's first cut of hair or teeth, I will collect the things she sticks in her ear.
This blog is a story of two parents, both special educaton teachers, trying to raise a first grader and a precocious preschooler. We love to travel, cook, tend to our "backyard farm", and spend time with each other.

Colors Activity
Here is my latest activity that we have been working on, colors. I painted the bottoms of the cups and cut up straws that match the colors. We are working on primary colors. She can copy what I say, but doesn't yet know her colors. She however, can match all the colors perfectly. It took her a few weeks to choose this activity or even want to participate, but I put it in front of the VCR (yes, VCR, we still have both types), so she has to look at in order to use the VCR. This activity could be expanded to include complementary colors, too. Eventually, I will also do this for numbers by writing the numbers on the bottom and putting in the right number of straws in.

Easter Trip to Orange County
We had a great trip seeing lots of family and friends this past week. Izzy and I flew down to see family and celebrate Easter. She is a great flier minus getting sick on the way there and being deathly afraid of the take off out of Orange County on the way back. Otherwise I love having her buckled in, but don't like having to huff the car seat around. Thankfully Paul and my mom were able to get Escort Passes (completely recommend if you are flying solo with a child).
Grandpa picked us up at the airport then we went and got MiMa at work to go to lunch. To our surprise my best friend Lindsay showed up with her husband, and we were able to eat with them.
The next day we walked around Fashion Island, a hit for kids and a laugh for the adults. There is nothing better for Izzy then a carousel, a pet store, water fountains with fish, and plenty of dogs.

After we couldn't pass up the beach. Mommy's favorite place.

Part II
On Saturday we went to see Great-Grandma Pat and Great-Grandpa John to go Easter Egg hunting in the park. Although, it was cold and we were not prepared, we had a great time. Izzy shared when I asked her what do you need to do "Eggs Izzy basket". She did a great job.

For Easter, the Easter Bunny hid eggs around MiMa and Grandpa's house. Izzy was pointing them out before she even got down the stairs.

Then we went to Great Grandma Laura's for lunch. Izzy looked so cute in her yellow dress. It was quite a memory for us all since this is the first kid to get an Easter basket in over 10 years. Izzy loved playing with all the dogs and the bunny. Her love for animals is so great. Maybe she will be a vet someday.

Part III
One of our favorite things to do when we are down there are to play with our friends Joshua and Henry. We always plan some great play-date for the kids. This time we went to the Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana. We experienced the museum and went to a Bubbles show. Izzy LOVES bubbles. They are part of baths every night. Although the museum may have been geared a little older than our kids, we found plenty to do and it opens doors for us to come back for years to come as the children become older.

Izzy was so cute when she spotted herself on the camera. She then went into her favorite game of "I See You!" with her image.
