This blog is a story of two parents, both special educaton teachers, trying to raise a first grader and a precocious preschooler. We love to travel, cook, tend to our "backyard farm", and spend time with each other.

Demonstration and Job
Izzy's teacher told me that today she gave a demonstration (a Montessori term for demonstrating step by step how to do or work a job). She was suppose to cut the fruit with a knife, put the piece on a napkin, and pass it to the teacher. Her teacher was thrilled because she was the only kid in the group to do this. She cut the fruit appropriately and then passed the piece on a napkin to a friend. This doesn't surprise Paul or I one bit. She has been able to use a knife since she was around a year and a half years old. She cuts bananas, butter, cheese, fruit, etc. We feel better to teach her how to use it then have her scare us by using it.
